Date: 4/19/99Second day of searching yields little new in Jovin killing (New Haven-WTNH)
_ Investigators were once again scouring the area where Yale student Suzanne Jovin was stabbed to death. Sunday volunteers with metal detectors discovered a piece of forensic evidence just blocks from where Jovin's body was found. And Monday police were following up on that possible lead. News Channel 8's Jocelyn Sigue has the story.
New haven police dug deep into storm drains on St. Ronan street searching for the knife used to kill Suzanne Jovin. Public works crews sifted through the sludge. The New Haven fire department flushed out what remained. And anxious neighbors stood by.
Indoors, the Ronan Edgehill Neighborhood Association stuffed envelopes. Their latest newsletter loaded with new information also aimed at getting this murder mystery solved.
Jack Buckman, Ronan Neighborhood Assoc.: "Let's hope that it makes people refocus on that period and somebody will come up with a bit of a memory jogger that give the police a piece of evidence that they didn't have before."
A piece of unidentified evidence found yesterday led police back here today. A group of metal detecting enthusiasts, the Nutmeg Treasure Hunters, found it just blocks away from the scene where Jovin was found dying in early December.
Arthur Kohloff, Nutmeg Treasurer Hunters "I was hoping that I would be the one to find it but I wasn't that lucky."
But Kohloff points out you can't find something if it isn't there.
Kohloff: "Anything we can do to help uncover that evidence or bring witnesses forward we're prepared to do. People are frustrated that it hasn't been resolved til now."
Members of the neighborhood association did not want to reveal the specifics of their newsletter. They wanted it in the hands of their members first. They hope the combination of that information, the police search, reward money from the state and the recent plea from Suzanne Jovin's mother will finally lead to the killer.
